Australian Olympic Committee Initiative

Australian Olympic Committee

The AOC is a major supporter of, and leader in the further development of, Australian winter sports, and is providing a record level of investment to strengthen the winter sports system for athletes competing at the highest international level.

In 2005-2006, a total of $865,784 was allocated for program funding in the lead up to the Olympic Games.

The AOC has pledged to increase base funding to $750,000 in 2006/07 and $1 million per annum in 2008/09 and 2009/10.

Australian Sports Commission

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is a statutory authority of the Australian Government.. The ASC is governed by a board of commissioners appointed by the Australian Government, which determines the ASC's overall direction, decides on actual allocation of resources and policy for delegated decisions, and is accountable to the Minister for Sport and to Parliament.

The Australian Government supports winter sports through High Performance Grants given to the direct to the OWI and national federations.

State Institutes & State Associations

Victorian Institute of Sport

The Victorian Institute of Sport is an official program partner of the Aerial Skiing Program. The VIS also offers individual scholarships to selected winter sport athletes.

New South Wales Institute of Sport

The New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) is an official program partnet of the Mogul Skiing, Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross Programs. NSWIS also offers individual scholarships to selected winter sport athletes.

Mt Buller is the home resort of the OWI and Australian Aerial Skiing program.

Ski and Snowboard Australia is the Snowsports program partner of the OWI and is the National Sporting Organisation and Federation representing the FIS.

Australian Ice Racing is a program partner of the OWI and is the National Sporting Organisation and Federation representing the ISU in Short Track Speed Skating.

Ice Skating Australia

Ice Skating Australia is the Figure Skating program partner of the OWI and is the National Sporting Organisation and Federation representing the ISU.

Australian Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association

The Australian Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association is the Skeleton program partner of the OWI and is the National Sporting Organisation and Federation representing the FIBT.

Facilities

Icehouse

The OWI's new home at Medibank Icehouse is equipped with state-of-the-art ice training facilities for athletes, administration offices, conference rooms, video analysis facilities, medical suites and a fully equipped gymnasium.

These facilities further expand OWI's programs in sports, such as figure skating, speed skating, aerial skiing, alpine skiing, skeleton, snowboarding, mogul skiing and ski cross in the lead-up to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

OWI Chairman Geoff Henke, one of the driving forces behind the development of the centre, has hailed the Docklands facility as "a brilliant concept that gives new life to the long tradition of ice sports in Melbourne, and the cornerstone of national excellence, producing future Olympic champions."
