Synonymous with the sport of aerial skiing, Jacqui has represented Australia in five Winter Olympic teams since 1994, competed in 139 World Cup events and holds an impressive competition record that encompasses five World Cup titles, 39 World Cup medals, 24 World Cup wins and gold and two bronze medals in World Championship events.
The naming of the jump site at Mt Buller is a fitting tribute to Jacqui's long journey in the sport since she began aerial freestyle skiing at Mt Buller back in 1989.
"Jacqui has spent twenty years building her reputation as the world's best aerial skier and we couldn't think of a more fitting way to honour her long list of achievements in the sport. It is with great pleasure we dedicate this special place at Mt Buller in Jacqui's name, where she will inspire young aerialists for years to come," said Laurie Blampied of Buller Ski Lifts.
"The newly named Jacqui Cooper jump site is where it all started for Jacqui and it is exciting for Australian snowsports to see just how much she has achieved. I hope we see more international sporting heroes emerge from this great facility to join Jacqui, Kirstie Marshall, Alisa Camplin and Lydia Lassila and we look forward to supporting them here at Mt Buller."
Mt Buller developed a dedicated Olympic Winter Institute training facility for the Australian women's aerial ski team on Chamois Run in 1997 and hosted the OWI aerial skiing team in their preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
"I am very honored and so excited that Mt Buller is naming this world class aerial skiing venue after me. The Mt Buller community has always been huge supporters of mine; they are a major part of my success," said Jacqui Cooper.
"I am a Mt Buller girl. Twenty years ago my career was born on the Bourke Street ski run. Later my dreams came true on this jump site here on Chamois when I became the first Australian skier to win a World Cup on home soil. I have won five out of my 24 career World Cups wins right here and naming it "Jacqui's Jumps" will keep me connected to this mountain forever." (Courtesy of Buller Ski Lifts),
