If there was any Australian winter sport competitor who was destined to become one of the country’s elite athletes, it is Anton. Anton is the son of Mt Buller legend Hans Grimus, proprietor of the famous Pension Grimus Hotel.
But while being born into a family synonymous with a snow resort meant that skiing was an almost certain outcome, achieving the distinction of national selection had to be earned.
Grimus was a member of the Australian National Alpine Team, but made the switch to Ski Cross in 2010 with immediate success, qualifying second for the final in his first World Cup start.
Grimus has continued to improve each season, with the highlight of his career coming in December 2012, where he made the first World Cup podium of his career, a bronze medal performance in Nakiska, Canada.
Competing in his first Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, Grimus placed 25th.
In 2014-2015, Grimus again was one of the fastest in the wold with strong qualifying times. His best World Cup performance came in Arosa, Switzerland, where he placed seventh.
Grimus timed his best performance of the 2015-2016 season perfectly, finishing in ninth place at the Olympic Test Event for PyeongChang.
