BIOGRAPHY
Daisy Thomas first started skiing at three years old. Initially training as an alpine skier, Thomas moved over to the mogul program, before finding a passion for slopestyle skiing. The Sydney skier loves being in the mountains and the joy she feels when skiing with friends.
Thomas is inspired by skier Sarah Hoefflin, not only because she is an Olympic gold medallist but has also completed a degree in Neuroscience. Thomas is amazed by her ability to achieve both an academic career and skiing career – something she aspires to achieve herself one day.
In 2023, Thomas placed seventh in both the slopestyle and big air events at the FIS Junior World Championships in Cardrona, NZ. Earlier in the year she also won the World Rookie Tour.
Thomas made an impressive World Cup debut in December 2023, finishing seventh in her first final. in Copper Mountain, USA.
The then 16-year-old made it through to the eight-woman-final in seventh place, with her back double 1080 with grab in jump two in qualifying scoring 81.75 points.
In the best two of three jump final, Thomas was the youngest in the field. Her first jump again featured her back double 1080 with grab scored slightly higher with 82.75 points.
On jump two Thomas went with a switch left bio 900 with grab scoring 67.75 points. Her third jump didn’t count, giving her a total score of 150.50 points from the first two jumps combined.
At the Youth Olympic Winter Games in Gangwon, South Korea, Thomas won Australia’s first ever medal in Big Air, claiming silver.
Thomas cleanly executed two of her three jumps, a left double 10 safety and a switch left bio 9 safety, to claim the silver medal with a combined score of 172.75, just 7.25 points behind gold medallist Flora Tabanelli from Italy.
Thomas said she was happy to land on the podium after her fifth place finish in slopestyle.
“I came here with the goal of getting on the podium, I’ve had the Youth Olympic medal on my phone’s home screen for over a year now, and to now have the medal in my hands feels so surreal!” Thomas said.
“I was pretty close to the podium in slopestyle, so heading into this morning I was pretty confident but also pretty excited and determined to get on the podium.
“I went in confident in my own ability, in my training and in my two tricks. I had a game plan and ultimately just had to execute that plan, which I did.
“I was pretty stoked after scoring high on my first jump (91.00), it took the pressure off a little bit and set me up well for the rest of the competition.”
