Deanna Lockett is a rising star in short track speed skating, having taken up the sport in Brisbane when she was nine years old.
Lockett enjoyed a break-out international season in 2011/12, securing two top-10 World Cup performances - seventh in the 1000m and tenth in the 1500m in Shanghai, China.
The following season 2012/13 was even more impressive for Lockett, with top results including fourth in the 1000m at the World Cup in Shanghai, China and fifth in the 1500m at the World Cup in Nagoya, Japan.
At the 2013 World Championships, Lockett was Australia's stand out performer coming 12th in her preferred distance - 1500m, as well as 23rd in the 1000m and 35th in the 500m.
Also in 2013, Lockett contested the Junior World Championships, winning bronze on the opening day in the 1500m. She finished sixth in the 500m and ninth in the 1000m. Her combined results from this meet had her placed fourth overall in the world.
In the 2013-2014 season, Lockett made her Olympic debut at the Sochi Olympic Winter Games. Locket had a strong performance in the 1000m event, where she placed ninth overall.
Lockett had another strong season in 2014-2015, matching her previous best World Cup result of fourth in the 1500 metres event in Shanghai, China. Unfortunately Lockett had to miss the 2015 World Championships due to injury.
2015-2016 was a frustrating year for Lockett, with illness (glandular fever) forcing her to miss the first four World Cup events of the season. Lockett returned just in time for the final two World Cup events and World Championships, with her best result being two 12th place finishes in a pair of 1500m events in Dresden, Germany.
