The usual performance spark was on show as OWIA Figure Skater Kailani Craine opened her international season with her short program at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Colorado Springs, USA, but a mistake on the triple flip has cost her a place in the top groups against a hot field.
Scoring 42.01 and five points off her personal best, Kailani was thrilled to land her opening triple lutz/triple loop jump combination but the under-rotation on the triple flip and fall off the landing resulted in a one point deduction and low value for the required element.
Craine finished the short program ranked 13th.
The 17-year-old Australian Champion who trains in Newcastle, Sydney and Los Angeles has a reputation as a fierce competitor who is fun to watch.
In the free program Craine improved her overall ranking from thirteenth to twelfth, with an improved skate in the free performance.
