Greig 20, did not achieve a top 10 finish as hoped, but after a season disturbed by a nagging knee injury, and ending with 3 days in bed recovering from a cold during the week of the Championships, there were some encouraging signs for the future in both the 1000m and 500m performances.
Greig skated his fastest ever first 600m in the 1000m, but could not hang on and slipped to 22nd place. The World Championship was won by local Dutchman, Stefan Groothuis.
In the 500m event, Greig produced a personal best of his fastest 500m at sea level in 35.5 seconds. Even though this time was only .4 of a second away from a top 10, Daniel ended up in 21st place overall after combining both 500m races. The winner was Mo Tae-Bum, South Korea.
Greig will now travel home to Australia for a brief off season, before returning to Holland for inline training with Coach Desly Hill.
