Like many of her team-mates, Samantha is a former national level gymnast, having started the sport at age three. Samantha was recruited to aerial skiing by World Champion and five-time Olympian Jacqui Cooper, and made her World Cup debut for Australia in January 2012.
Samantha had a strong finish to the 2013-2013 World Cup season, recording a ninth place performance at the World Cup/Olympic test event in Sochi, Russia, and sixth place at the World Championships in Voss, Norway.
In the lead-in to the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games, Samantha had a personal best World Cup performance of fourth, narrowly missing her first ever podium.
Competing at her first Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Samantha was very unlucky not to be one of the top six females to advance to the final in the first round of qualifying, missing out by one place ranked seventh. In the second round of qualifying where another six females advanced to the final, Samantha was 12th which resulted in an overall placing of 18th.
Samantha was forced to take a break from competition in 2014-2015 due to injuries, but has resumed training with the program in April 2015 to take part in the full 2015-2016 season.
The 2016-2017 year was a breakthrough for Samantha, winning her first ever World Cup medal, after placing second in Deer Valley, UT, USA. In taking silver, Samantha performed a Full-Double Full jump in the final; the first time she has ever performed this jump in competition.
