Lockett spearheads an Australian team boasting a mix of youth and experience with the remaining five team members fresh from competing at last weekend’s Junior World Championships.
The 21-year-old will draw upon her big tournament experience to mentor her junior team members Keanu and Denali Blunden, Liam O'Brien and Skyler and Josh Kah who are in good spirits after a successful tournament.
Lockett has competed at each of the four World Cup events of the season and will be hoping for another positive outing at the weekend. Her 2016/17 result sheet includes three top ten finishes – eighth in the 1,000m at Gengneug (KOR), (which also doubled as the Olympic Winter Games test event), ninth in the 1,500m at Shanghai (CHN) and 10th in the 1,500m at Salt Lake City (USA).
At the Shanghai World Cup Lockett set a new personal best time in the 500m, crossing the line in 44.666 seconds.
Dresden has previously been a successful event for Lockett with the Brisbane native posting one of her strongest ever World Cup results. In the 2014/15 season she finished the 1,500m in eighth place.
Later this month Lockett will represent Australia at the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo where she’ll get the chance to mix it with some of the sport’s leading athletes.
The Dresden World Cup qualifying rounds begin on Friday.
