However, it wasn't all good news for the Australian team, with team-mate, Julie Jung, injuring her hip in the 500 metre heats and having to withdraw from the competition.
Team coach, Ann Zhang, reports that all the Australian skaters have come down with the flu since travelling from last weekend's event in Sochi, compromising their performances in Germany.
Despite this, Deanna Lockett finished third in the B Final of the 1500 metres, finishing in 11th place overall.
Pierre Boda also performed solidly, finishing 33rd in the men's 1500 metre (1) event.
"Julie had to withdraw so that she can regain fitness for the upcoming World Championships," Zhang said.
"Hopefully the flu doesn't affect our performances too much on day two."
The racing in Dresden continues on Sunday.
