Lockett qualified automatically for the semi-finals of the 1500 metres after finishing second in her heat in a time of two minutes 38.027 seconds, which was the seventh fastest time overall in the heats.
In her 1000 metre heat, Lockett finished third, but was one of the two quickest third placegetters out of the six heats, and has therefore qualified for the Quarter Finals.
Our men’s skaters will be forced to come through the repechage rounds to progress further in the competition.
Pierre Boda, Andy Jung and Nate Henry were unable to progress automatically in the preliminary heats of the 500 metres.
In the 1000 metre preliminary heats, Pierre Boda finished third and in a time of one minute 26.592 seconds did qualify for the heats, however was unable to progress further, so will join teammate Armstrong Lazenby in Sunday’s repechage rounds.
It was a busy day for Lazenby and Henry, who also competed in the 1500 metres. Both finished fifth in their respective heats, meaning they’ll be back in action on Saturday, also in the repechage heats.
