First ISU Junior Grand Prix event takes place in Australia

The Australian team at the ISU Junior Grand Prix

Australia’s first ever Junior Grand Prix Figure Skating event was held at the Iceworld Olympic Ice Rink in Boondale, Queensland from the 7th-10th of September.

Six of Australia’s top junior skaters competed at the event, it was the international debut of three of these athletes.

Australian ladies skater Brooklee Han had a top-10 result, placing 11th in the short and 7th in the free program, finishing 8th out of 22 competitors with a total score of 115.49 points.

Chantelle Kerry in her international debut event finished 13th on 103.05 points, achieving a top 10 place in the free program while Jaimee Nobbs finished 20th with a total of 82.40 points.

America’s Courtney Hicks skated to the gold medal, while Risa Shoji from Japan took the silver medal and Vanessa Lam from the US claimed the bronze.

In the boys’ event, Brisbane based David Kranjec finished 12th out of 18 competitors, in his first international event in front of his local rink crowd with a total score of 128.93 points.

Brendan Kerry placed 14th with a total of 123.48 points and Oliver Porter placed 16th with a total of 102.03 points.

US and Japan took out the gold and silver again in the men’s event with Jason Brown and Keiji Tanaka respectively while Canadian Liam Firus claimed the bronze medal.
