Aussie sliders come back to earth in France

After her breakthrough second place in round one of the Skeleton World Cup in Austria last weekend, Australian slider, Emma Lincoln-Smith, has come back to earth at round two in France.

Lincoln-Smith could only manage 13th place on the tricky La Plagne track, while fellow Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarship holder, Lucy Chaffer, was one place further back.

However, Lincoln-Smith remains in seventh place in the World Cup standings for 2011/2012, three places ahead of Chaffer in 10th spot.

“I’m feeling pretty disappointed with myself right now,” Lincoln-Smith said after her second run down the 1.5 kilometre track.

“My first run was terrible and I came close to losing my sled. I’m just angry because I knew how good I could be here and I had so much more to give.

“I was over anxious and didn’t have the right mind set going into it and it cost me. I just want to learn from today and move on because I know what I can do and what I'm capable of.

“I’ll now concentrate on getting back on track for next week’s third round of the World Cup in Winterberg.”

After her sixth place in the first World Cup event of the season, Chaffer also had a disappointing event in France, finishing in 14th place, just two tenths of a second behind her team-mate.

The Skeleton World Cup continues next weekend in Germany.
