Amber Essex, is one of Australia’s emerging talents in snowboard cross.

A product of the Perisher Winter Sports Club and the NSW Institute of Sport, Essex began snowboarding at age eight and transitioned into snowboard cross during her school years.

Her early competitive experience included the Australian Junior Series and Europa Cup events, paving the way for her debut on the FIS World Cup circuit in the 2023/2024 season.

The 2024/2025 season marked Essex’s first full campaign at the elite level, highlighted by a career-best seventh place at Beidahu, China, in February 2025.

This result came during a double World Cup weekend where Essex demonstrated her ability to compete among the world’s best, finishing just outside the big-final in a demanding course.

She also recorded an 11th place finish at the opening World Cup event in Cervinia, Italy, and a 14th place in Erzurum, Türkiye.

Essex’s season concluded with a 19th place overall ranking on the FIS World Cup standings,

Unfortunately she missed the 2025 World Championships in St Moritz due to injury, but is set to return to World Cup competition at the first events of the 2025-2026 season in pursuit of Olympic Winter Games qualification in Milano-Cortina.

I loved gymnastics, touch footy, and athletics growing up.

Favourite overseas competition and why:
Cervinia, Italy World Cup. We go back every year so it almost feels like a home away from home. It is also the final race before Christmas so the atmosphere is buzzing on the mountain and in the village.

Spending time outdoors! I love hiking, cycling, and camping!
