BIOGRAPHY
A keen skier when she was young, Emily Arthur is convinced that if her Interschools race wasn’t cancelled in 2005 she would be a ski racer now and would never have swapped to snowboard.
The rider from Woronora Heights in NSW qualified for her first World Cup in August 2013. She won bronze at the Junior World Championships in 2014 and finished 16th at the World Snowboard Championships in Austria in January 2015.
Arthur had her first taste of Olympic glory at the Lillehammer 2016 Youth Winter Olympic Games, where she was named as the Opening Ceremony Flag Bearer. The then 16-year-old won silver in the snowboard halfpipe in Norway, as well as placing a commendable 15th in the snowboard slopestyle.
The 2016/17 Northern Hemisphere season saw the youngster in the top 20 in all World Cup events contested, including a 10th place finish at the Olympic Test Event in Phoenix PyeongChang. Her season ended with an impressive 17th place finish at the World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain and a 19th place ranking on the halfpipe world standings. She recorded a career-best result at the 2017 Secret Garden World Cup, qualifying for her first final and finishing in sixth place.
Arthur was the best placed Australian female in snowboard halfpipe at PyeongChang 2018 when the 18-year-old finished 11th in her Winter Olympic debut. Arthur advanced to the 12-rider final in 8th place after putting down a best score of 66.50 in the qualifiers. She gave it her all in the final but couldn’t quite land the run she was aiming to do, putting down her best score in her opening run with a 48.25 before scoring 9.25 and 25.00 in her remaining two runs to finish in 11th place.
In the 2018-2019 season, Arthur's best performances came at World Cup events in Copper Mountain, USA, and Calgary, Canada, where she finished in 13th and 12th place respectively.
Arthur competed in the Olympic Test Event/World Cup at Secret Garden, China, in 2019-2020, finishing in 14th place.
