Competing in back-to-back Olympic qualification events, Corey’s standout result came in the 1500m, where he reached the B Final in the first event (October 9–12), finishing 11th overall. He also placed 13th in the 1000m, advancing to the quarterfinals, and 35th in the 500m.
In the second Montreal event held this past weekend, Corey continued his strong form in the 1500 and 1000 metre distances. Corey reached the semi-final in the 1500 metres, ranked 16th overall. Corey also placed 16th in the 1000 metres advancing to the quarter-final stage and was 26th in the 500 metres.
Joining Corey in Montreal were fellow Australian Ice Racing athletes Lucas Wareham and Hyo Jin Kim, who competed in the heat and repechage rounds across both events.
Reflecting on his Olympic season preparation, Corey said:
“My preparation for the season was quite intense. I'm feeling stronger on the ice than ever before. I tend to perform better as the season progresses, and I’m keen to see what I can do as we get closer to the Games.”
“It’s Olympic season, so every team brings their best. Many have stepped up their game—there are no ‘easy’ races anymore. I need to stay focused from the preliminaries all the way to the final.”
After the first two events, Corey is ranked 15th in the 1000 metres, 17th in the 1500 metres, and 21st overall.
The third stop on the ISU World Tour will be held in Gdańsk, Poland, from November 20–23.
