Originally from Sydney, Phoebe Cridland began skiing in school competitions for PLC Sydney before attending SCEGGS and was selected for the Australian Junior Cross Country Ski Team at just 15 years old.
Her early promise led to multiple appearances at World Junior and Under-23 Championships, and she made her World Cup and World Championship debut during the 2022–23 season.
Cridland has steadily progressed on the international stage, competing at the 2023 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica, Slovenia, and returning for the 2025 World Championships in Trondheim, Norway, where she helped Australia achieve its best-ever women’s relay result with a 12th-place finish in the 4x7.5km event.
Individually, she placed 42nd in the 15km skiathlon and 41st in the 10km interval start classic at the same championships. Her World Cup highlights include a personal best 41st in the 20km interval start classic in Oslo in 2025 and 17th in the mixed relay in Falun in 2023.
Her goal is to represent Australia at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, a dream she has pursued through years of training and competition overseas.
Q & A
Childhood Ambition: To become a cheerleader for the West Tigers
Proudest Moment: Successfully warding off Norwegian telephone marketers in Norwegian (after many failed attempts).
I began this sport .... In 2015 at Interschools. My Mum had been an avid cross country skier in her university days and was keen on me following in her footsteps (I was not so convinced). But after my first race I became hooked!
Participation in other sports: Gymnastics, diving, touch football, rugby 7s, cross country running and moguls
Favourite overseas competition and why: World Cup in Oslo! It's not possible to race a world cup in Sydney, so racing a world cup in my second home is the next best thing.
Sports Hero: As a kid, Lauren Mitchell.
When I am not training/competing I am: Working for an HR company anywhere and anytime, whether that is sitting on the toilet or mid-ski in the middle of the Norwegian forest.
Highest level of education achieved: Currently completely a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science at USYD.
