BIOGRAPHY
Madison Hoffman first started competitive ski racing when she was six years old, after joining her primary school’s interschool team.
Originally from Sydney, Hoffman has called Park City, Utah, USA, home for a number of years where she trains year-round and attended the University of Utah.
A regular on the North American Cup tour, Hoffman has achieved multiple top-10 results. She secured a fifth-place giant slalom finish in early 2020.
Throughout her career Hoffman has competed in three World Junior Ski Championships, achieving a personal best 14th place finish in giant slalom at Bansko, Bulgaria in early 2021.
She made her World Cup debut in Soelden, Austria in October 2021 - unfortunately recording a DNF.
Hoffman was set to make her Olympic debut in Beijing 2022, but unfortunately suffered an ACL injury competing in the Utah Invitational meet just before the games.
In 2022/2023, Hoffman returned to competitive skiing following her season ending injury from the previous year.
Hoffman showed real promise with multiple podium performances at university and Nor-Am Cup level. Hoffman secured a Nor-Am win in the Stratton, USA, giant slalom race, and had 2 x second place finishes in both the giant slalom and slalom disciplines.
Hoffman started the 2023-2024 World Cup season in style in Levi, Finland, becoming the first Australian to record World Cup points in the slalom event since 2002, when Olympic bronze medallist Zali Steggall placed 18th in the final World Cup event of her legendary career.
In the first of two World Cup slalom events in Levi, Hoffman had a great first run completing the course in a time of 56.62 seconds in 25th place. In the second run Hoffman again had the 25th fastest run, finishing her run in 59.38 second, giving her a two tun total time of 1 minute 56 seconds, finishing 25th overall, 5.41 seconds behind event winner and 2022 Olympic slalom gold medallist Petra Vlhova of Slovakia.
The performance was even more impressive, considering it was just the third World Cup start of her career, with World Cup points only awarded to athletes who finish in the top-30 of the field of 85 skiers on the weekend.
Hoffman also came close to a top-30 finish at the World Cup slalom in Courchevel, France, finishing in 37th place.
Competing in Nor-Am events in Canada, Hoffman also had a gold and a silver medal performance in the slalom.
In the end of season FIS Point rankings, Hoffman improved to a career best 42nd in the slalom.
