The 28-year-old Australia showed glimpses of her best and signalling to her rivals that she is returning to top form following a self-imposed break after last year’s Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where she picked up the silver medal.
Bright put down an impressive run which earned the Aussie 78.33 points, behind American Kelly Clarke on 90 points and the gold medal winning 14-year-old American Chloe Kim’s best run of 92 points.
In the snowboard cross event, Australia’s Belle Brockhoff finished strongly in fourth place, just 0.16 seconds off the podium.
The fourth place continues the strong season being enjoyed by Brockhoff, who placed seventh 10 days ago in the FIS Ski and Snowboard World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria.
American Lindsey Jacobellis was first, with Canada’s Dominique Maltais second and Frenchwoman Nelly Moenne Loccoz in third place.
Fellow OWIA/NSWIS athletes Cam Bolton and Jarryd Hughes made it through to the quarter finals in Aspen, both finishing in sixth place in high class fields.
