OUR HISTORY
Following the Nagano Winter Olympics in 1998, the Australian Olympic Committee established the Australian Institute of Winter Sports (AIWS) with the goal of strengthening Australia’s presence and performance in Olympic winter sport.
The organisation was created to provide Australian athletes with greater access to funding, high performance programming and world-class coaching support as they prepared for international competition.
On July 1st 2001, the organisation officially became the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA), reinforcing its connection to the Olympic movement in Australia and its long-term commitment to elite winter sport development.
Today, OWIA continues to support Australia’s leading winter athletes while helping shape the future of Olympic winter sport nationwide.

HIGH PERFORMANCE SUPPORT
OWIA delivers specialised support across multiple Olympic winter sports through coaching, sports science, technical expertise and international competition opportunities.
The institute works closely with national sporting federations, state institutes and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) to provide athletes with a complete high performance environment.
